Taking a walk on 'The Sunny Side of the Street' is my way of saying I'm choosing to look at the positive in life.  That's not to say that a cloud or two doesn't try to block the sun, or an occassional rain storm comes my way.  As the song says, "Life's sweet.  Just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street."

We're Not in Kansas Anymore!

Yesterday was one of those days that seemed to never end, and when I got up this morning, it felt like yesterday was still going on.  The first week I go back to work always tends to be a little crazy.  I had to move to a different classroom than the one I had last year, so I had to move all my things to my new room.  It's coming along great!  I started cleaning and disinfecting toys yesterday around 9am, and by 5:30pm started thinking about going home some time.  I get caught up in what I'm doing (to put it mildly!)

Fast forward through a dinner of pizza, unhappy family members (who shall remain nameless), and trying to get a run in, without getting struck by lightning.  I decided I needed to color my hair to get rid of the gray and the yucky gold highlights the pool brought out.  Step 1 was to put this conditioner in it.  Done.  Next thing you know...crash...bang...the storm kicks up and the power goes out!  No big deal, I'll just light some candles and relax in the tub while my gray is colored away.  I do not recommend coloring your hair by candlelight.  As I'm sitting in the tub wondering if the chemicals that are making me woozy, and the candles that are smelly too (not to mention the 'open flame') can cause an explosion, I hear all this banging.  Now it's hailing, and I figure this could be the most embarrassing experience of my life.  If there is a tornado, they are going to find me naked and shivering in my tub, with brown goop dripping everywhere!  Whose idea was this anyway??

Long story, not-so-short...all is well.  We wake up to the alarm on Phil's cell phone at 5:45 this morning, to you guessed it, no power still!  I'm at the store getting a cartload of ice and trading 'stories' with the other ladies (who are also buying ice) at 6:30am.  If you know me at all, this is WAY too early for me to be out of the house.  Thank God the Dunkin' Donuts had power!  I couldn't even make coffee!!!  I did have a back-up plan to use the camping-outlet thingy in the car to make a pot if I had to.  I got the food in the cooler, woke Rissa to give her the details of the day, and was just leaving to drop Justin at band camp (my 16 year old nephew is staying with us this week), and the power came back on.  Reload the fridge, try to get the computer up and running for the kids, and I'm headed out the door.  The outage messed something up on the surge protector and it's making this horrible shrill noise...non-stop!  No computer today.

I blissfully spent my day cleaning and organizing my classroom, un-interrupted by children, and with power!  That is till my husband calls...he's working over and I have to drop everything and go pick Justin up from the high school.  Oh, great!

So, all this is to tell you that "I believe in the sun, even when it's not shining" or hailing in this case! (the link is to my new fav CD)

Oh, I forgot to mention I have to pack two kids up for a church camping trip that leaves tomorrow morning at 9:00.  The swimsuits they need were blown off the deck, and are covered in mud!  It's going to be a fun evening!
